Sanitary Sewer Leads Homeowner's Responsibility - What You Should Know
All the drains in your home lead to somewhere, and unless you have a septic tank, the sewer lines lead out to the sewer main that services the Village. The sewer main is at the end of your property, under the street in most cases. What homeowners don't realize is that they are responsible for any damage suffered by the sewer line, all the way up to the sewer main.
In 2001 the State of Michigan enacted Public Act 222 (MCL 691.1416 seq.) to provide a statutory exception to government immunity for sanitary sewer backups on real property.
