Charles Mears State Park

One of the first state parks in Michigan, it was donated to the state in 1920 by Carrie Mears in honor of her father, Charles, a Chicago lumberman that was instrumental in the development of the region.  At the time of the donation, a bathhouse built by the city of Pentwater already existed on the site.  The park was improved in 1925 and remnants of the original campground are still visible near the entrance to the park.  The current campground was add ed in 1957.
